My name is Callista Powell and I am an author of this page.
I was born Deaf and have faced a lot of challenges throughout my entire life. I had a dream of becoming a teacher and I did. I graduated at Utah State University in 2007 with my master degree in Deaf Education. I have a passion of changing the education and how to help improve to make it better. Allowing the student to be successful in life and their goals is what I wanted to see.
Teacher is my life and I have faced a lot of obsticles in achieving a job as a teacher in the mainstream setting. I finally got a job, but it took a lot of hard work and dedication to get to where I am.
I am a mother of a beautiful girl who is my life. I am so thankful for my boyfriend, Cole, who has stood by me and support me through my journey. My family has pushed me to be the best that I can and not to allow my deafness be the excuse of “I can’t”, they pushed me so hard and expected so much of me. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am now.
My goal is to help you as a teacher, parents, professionals, and whoever works in the field with Deaf/Hard of Hearing understand more about Deaf and how to work with them in the classroom setting.
I am excited to share with you my journey and experience!
